Is This Thing On
Test, Test – Can you hear me? Check, Check 1, 2, 3
Let’s let’s bring it down now. This is history.
The lights are lowered and I’m ready for the task.
But no one’s listening. I have to ask…
Is this thing on?
Is this thing on?
Tap, tap – take a breath now. Try to form some words.
Made some comments, but I don’t think anybody heard.
The moment’s fleeting and the plug’s about to pull.
My heart is speeding and I’m feeling like a fool.

A Place to Call Home
….This isn’t what I had in mind.
….This isn’t what I signed up for.
This empty aimless feeling keeps on creeping up on me.
And I can’t take it anymore.
And I scream “Where am I going? What am I doing?”
There’s supposed to be a purpose – I’m supposed to have a plan.
I don’t have a destination. Cant even tell you where I am.
I just wish someone would guide me, and point which way to go.
I’m not looking for salvation – I’m just looking for a place to call home.
This feeling’s so familiar.
Uneasy rocking back and forth.
Waiting for the fan blade to suck me in and cut me
Into pieces that will scatter south and north.
And I scream “Where am I going? What am I doing?”

Piano Fingers
So tell me, is this all you imagined? A sunbeam by the window,
To look outside, And see what’s going on?
Take my hand, and tell me what you’re thinking.
I’ll tell you what I’m thinking.
I’m thinking this is heaven.
The day breaks, and we stretch ourselves to action.
Lost in conversation of what the day may bring.
Knead your toes along the fraying pillow.
I roll piano fingers in scales along your
back.
The gray sky gives its offering.
Flakes make their lazy way onto the dampened sill.
You taste one with your tongue,
And make that face you always make.
As if expecting something different this time.
But time won’t change, and neither will we.
Basking in eternity, watching the world fly by from our window.
It’s beautiful inside.

Catch the Moon
There we were – Taking on the world
Back in 1994.
You and me writing sentences
On a blackboard on the floor.
Though the words have been erased,
I remember what your lesson was that day.
Use your head and be yourself.
There’s nothing you can’t do.
Stand up tall, reach high enough,
And you might just catch the moon.
Different house – Harder hills to climb,
And a future to explore.
There you were, working by my side,
On solutions to the world.
Though the numbers start to fade,
I remember what your lesson was that day.
And the stars didn’t shine as bright
as you (you stole the room)
You carved a path of light,
making the darkest shadow easier to get through.
