Never Left Ground
You wanted me to fly.
You wanted me to share the sky with you.
Together, we
would race towards the horizon,
A s I kept my eyes on how you do the things you do.
But I never even learned to leave ground.
You wanted me to soar above the
highest cloud –
To make you stand up tall and proud: Daddy’s little
girl.
Tucked beneath your wing, you had thought of everything
T o keep me sailing high above this godforsaken world.
But I never even learned to leave ground.
If I spread my wings and finally make a try.
If I falter and plummet from the
sky,
W ill you send me back to the nest and hope for the best,
T he next time around.
I never even learned.
You wanted me to fly.
You wanted me to glide beyond
the rest.
For all your nurturing – the help you thought that it would
bring –
W here I’ve ended up I bet you never would have guessed.
